Athletic trainers Chris Shaddock, Coy Van Valkenburgh, Lindsey Thomas and Erin Sutton take care of DHS athletes from injury through rehabilitation and return to full participation.
While focusing on fitness, conditioning and performance enhancement, athletic trainers work in collaboration with physicians to prevent and treat musculoskeletal injuries and sports-related illnesses.
At DHS, 17 student athletic trainers also assist in day-to-day function in the athletic training room, including recognizing injuries, taping, administering treatments, providing first aid and stretching. These students are certified in CPR and Automated External Defibrillator use.
"Every Body Needs an Athletic Trainer" is the theme of the 2013 National Athletic Training Month sponsored by the National Athletic Trainers' Association.
