Kelsey-Seybold Clinic joined Greater Houston Healthconnect, adding enhanced geographic coverage for one of the nation's largest patient health information networks, it was recently announced.

According to a press release, "Greater Houston Healthconnect became operational just one year ago and has contracted with more than 3,200 physicians and area hospital systems to share secure patient records electronically."

"Our goal is to deliver the most advanced medical care with personalized attention," said Dr. Spencer Berthelsen, Kelsey-Seybold Clinic's chairman of the board of managers, in the press release. "Greater Houston Healthconnect provides a tool for enhancing the continuity of care we so highly value in our organization. With more complete information about our patients we can better manage and follow-up on critical events in their treatment."

Kelsey-Seybold Clinic operates clinics in 20 locations across five counties in the Greater Houston area.

Killens Steakhouse receives top rating from national travel magazine

Killens Steakhouse of Pearland was recently recognized as one of the best steakhouses in the United States by Travel & Leisure magazine.

According to a Pearland Economic Development Corporation press release, the restaurant was listed as one of 20 steakhouses across the country considered to be a cut above the rest.

The designation came in the March 2013 issue of the periodical and described Killens as casual, elegant and serving the best beef inside and outside the beltway. It also received mention for its signature dessert, the Creme Brulee bread pudding, made with custard-soaked croissants and topped with a brandy-brown sugar syrup, according to the magazine's website. .

The Wizard of Oz

We are pleased to announce our Winter Children's Theatre Play Production: The Wizard of Oz by Frank Baum. Adapted by Anne Coulter Martens. Ages 6-17.

When the lights go up and Dorothy finds herself in the land of Oz being hailed by the Munchkins for saving them from the Wicked Witch of the East, it is a pretty bewildering experience for a little girl from Kansas. But Dorothy bravely sets out to find a way back home and soon meets noble friends: the Scarecrow seeking brains, the Cowardly Lion who wants courage and the Tin Woodman who desires a heart above everything. These brave adventurers share wonderous and terrifying experiences in a play designed to delight the entire family. 

Auditions: Saturday, February 23 from 1-3pm. Mandatory parent meeting 1pm.

Seeking to cast 18-25 children ages 6 through 18.  Audition will consist of group exercises and improv as well as cold reading from the script. Please bring headshot and resume if you have one. If you do not have a headshot or resume, please bring a recent photograph with your name on it that we can keep. 

Principle Callbacks: Monday, Februrary 25 at 7pm

Production Fee: Production fee: $75 due on or before first rehearsal. Fee includes production expense, instruction, script, certificate, cast party, and two (2) tickets.  Limited opportunities are available for your child to be a part of this show, even if you cannot afford the production fee.

During the eighth annual competition Feb. 1, Pearland ISD middle and junior high school teams pitted their trivia skills against one another in Russian art, history, music, literature and economics.

Designed by Pearland ISD Advanced Academics, Quiz Bowl builds capacity and interest in Academic Decathlon.

Both Pearland High and Dawson High AcaDec teams bound for state

PHS, DHS AcaDec teams bound for state

Academic Decathlon teams from Pearland and Dawson high schools will advance to state after victories at the regional competition hosted at home Jan. 25-26.

The state meet will take place Feb. 22-24 in El Paso. PHS decathletes will advance to state once again after taking the lead in the large-school division and ranking as team gold in Super Quiz and overall score.

DHS competitors will make their first appearance at state after ranking as team bronze in Super Quiz and overall score during the regional competition.

The top two student scores in each of the three competition levels -- varsity, scholastic and honors -- determine each team’s final score.

PHS Scores

Varsity Division:
• Kaitlyn Harbuck: Gold in essay, silver in music and overall bronze medalist in varsity division
• Levi Nussman: Gold in interview, math, music, social science, language/literature and science; silver in economics and art; bronze in essay; and overall gold medalist in varsity division
• Kyler Plotts: Gold in speech and economics; silver in interview, math and social science; bronze in language/literature, art and science; and overall silver medalist in varsity division

A scholastic competition for high school teams, Academic Decathlon allows students to test their academic prowess through challenging competitions against other schools.

Teams progress through local, regional and state competitions to national finals.

During meets, students compete individually in multiple-choice tests in science, math, economics, language/literature, art and music. Competitors also take a written quiz in the Super Quiz topic -- this year Russia -- and complete speech, interview and essay contests.

To prepare for competitions, students attend an Academic Decathlon class and study and research after school and at home.
